I will be out of state over the holiday and will miss the next commissioners meeting. Something I will ask from them in a letter is a copy of their benefits package--all county workers, how many holidays, how many sick days, pension, perks, everything. I was surprised to hear that they used to be provided with cars and gas cards. For shame! Since WE must practice austerity to pay for the deemed essential county services along with everything else that is escalating in price, OUR REPRESENTATIVES can lead by example. Cut back on holidays, cut back on hours, cut back on sick leave, lunch break, pledge volunteer hours to SERVE our community and help get it fiscally on track. Great ideas have come from the general public. Let us see these listed--I recall a few. So we have until Dec. 1...there must be something more we can do. Frankly, if this tax hike goes through I think the lot of them should be fired.

On Wednesday night at 9:00 the Governor of Wisconsin, Scott Walker will be a guest on the Sean Hannity show on the Fox News channel. The labor reform plan that was enacted in Wisconsin this past year is a good plan that will allow for much lower taxes in the local communities on a long term basis. All states need to look at a plan similar to this. At the very least this is a good start, William Speare

You should have heard the stories tonight, they had me in tears. People hurting all over the county and these scumbags want to put the final nail in the coffin....makes me sick.

GREAT IDEAS! If you can attend the next commissioners meeting you can bring them with you and tell them about them! It is next wednesday at 10am. They have decided to wait before increasing the tax increase until Dec. 1st! YOU HELPED TO DELAY THAT VOTE! THANK YOU! Maybe now they will look at cuts instead of such high tax increase.

I will see if I can scare up a neighbor to attend tonight. The effect of this expense along with all our other taxes (I own two properties in two different states) coupled with the rising cost of food and energy will be devastating to people already on the edge financially. IDEAS: first, drastic measures need to be taken...can we cut the work hours and salaries to all our political reps.? They can volunteer extra time if it is needed, they are servants. The salary posted for Commissioner is way out of line, from my perspective. Second, this state should be booming with the gas drilling activity. I live on rt. 6 and 11 and industrial vehicles, trucks and cars have increased tremedously. I suffer with the noise and dirt, but am happy to see the industry: so where are the deals made with the county to help with road maintenance and other resources to counter the inevitable damage to land and water, etc.? We should all be seeing some benefit from the drilling.  Finally, I was surprised with the defensive attack on all the good people who showed up to express their valid concerns. We are not political, we are their employers, they should at least dane respect. And unions, we cannot afford them!  Sorry for my ignorance but I will do my best to learn about how a county is run. I was not pleased to see these guys in action.

Pam, Yes that is the exact reason I went to the 8 am meeting! These guys pull the same stunt at every meeting. They have you ask your question and then at the end they give answers that leave you with more questions but no ability to rebutt. It is all set up in THEIR favor! I hope we get more tonight to show up. I have more questions I want to ask and will be attending. If you can't attend, let me know what questions you have and I will try to ask them as well. And THANK YOU for attending! I know it is discouraging, that is what I Have been trying to tell people for 3 years now! These guys are so arrogant and think they can just leave you hanging with no recourse. But the public must get involved to change that scenerio. And you are starting to see what we have all been witnessing for years now. If you can, please share your experience with others so they will be encouraged to attend. Thanks again.

Thanks Mary Ann! If you want to go to the 6 pm one let me know.

Wish I could attend the 6pm--in my neighborhood--to get a fuller picture of this new budget proposal/tax hike. Do you believe the Commissioners heard the excellent comments made by the attending general audience? I missed some of the discussion (feeding the meter) but I left with more questions than answers. Does this group plan to follow-up with further action? I will call and write to these guys (ALL guys, no gals?) with my own thoughts, but what a discouraging experience.

See you at 8!!  Good job... it's now or never...  To let this slide by without a fight is irresponsible of any citizen of Lackawanna County!

Excellent Scott! Please pass on info to family and friends. If enough people show up we can stop this 38% Tax increase. Let them cut some of their pet projects rather than tax us like this.

I'll try to make it to the covington meeting at 3pm
